Caring for the land: Stewardship at Sequoia Highland Camp
At Sequoia Highland Camp, we believe stewardship is more than just a responsibility—it’s a commitment to nurturing the land we love. Through our conservation efforts and dedication to sustainable practices, we are restoring the natural beauty of this landscape and ensuring its vitality for generations to come. A portion of our revenue is reinvested into projects aimed at rejuvenating the environment, fostering biodiversity, and supporting the thriving ecosystems that make this land extraordinary.
Our efforts are rooted in a deep love for the land and a vision to let it flourish. Below are some of the initiatives driving our mission:

Sustainable Forestry: The Sawmill Project
Over the years, many trees on our property have succumbed to drought, invasive beetles, or storm damage. In partnership with organizations like PG&E, some trees must also be removed when they pose a risk to powerlines. These trees, which have taken decades or even centuries to grow, deserve more than to simply be burned.
To honor their legacy, we’ve established a sawmill to repurpose these trees into sustainably sourced wood. Each piece of wood carries a story, with its origin traceable to a specific spot on our land. This wood is used for projects at Sequoia Highland Camp and is also available for purchase by our guests, allowing them to take home a tangible piece of this beautiful place.
Our commitment doesn’t end there—we plant new trees to replace those that are lost, ensuring we give back more than we take. If you’re interested in partnering with us to support this sustainable initiative, we’d love to hear from you.

Education and Biodiversity Enhancement

Education is a cornerstone of our mission. We are launching programs to monitor and enhance biodiversity across the camp, collaborating with biologists to create habitats that support a wide range of species. Some of our initiatives include:
• Building insect hotels and installing owl and bat boxes to provide shelter for native wildlife.
• Planting food forests to support animals and pollinators.
• Enhancing our pond to serve as a vital water resource for wildlife.
In addition, we are working with specialists to host workshops and educational programs for guests. These experiences aim to foster awareness about the natural environment, native species, and sustainable living practices. If you’re passionate about conservation and want to collaborate or share your expertise, we welcome you to join us.

Conservation Efforts: Restoring Our Forests

Sequoia Highland Camp is actively addressing the challenges of drought, invasive pests, and wildfire damage. Our comprehensive reforestation plan spans 40 acres of the property and focuses on both natural regeneration and strategic replanting. Phase One (2026-2029) includes:
• Site Preparation: Clearing dense undergrowth to create space for new growth.
• Woody Residue Treatment: Removing or repurposing dead wood through mastication or controlled burning.
• Replanting Trees: Hand-planting native trees to support reforestation.
• Ongoing Maintenance: Managing vegetation that competes with newly planted trees.
We also anticipate significant natural regeneration as the land heals and thrives following these efforts. To enhance biodiversity, we’re collaborating with biologists to introduce bird and bat boxes, bee habitats, and animal food forests in the restored areas.
