Conservation Efforts at Sequoia Highland Camp
Sequoia Highland Camp is committed to restoring and preserving our natural landscape, which has been significantly impacted by severe drought, invasive beetles, and wildfires. Our conservation efforts focus on several key activities to ensure the health and regeneration of our forest. We aim for a combination of natural regeneration and planting. Phase one concerns 40 acres of our property in the timeframe 2024 - 2027 and will entail the following activities:
• Tree/Shrub Site Preparation (Mechanical/Shredding/Heavy Vegetation): Mastication of dense understory
• Woody Residue Treatment (Restoration following catastrophic events):
• Mastication of dense understory in the apple orchard and beyond
• Removal of excess dead wood through mastication or burning
• Tree/Shrub Site Preparation: Treatment of understory competing with planted trees
• Replanting Trees (Reforestation, Handplanting)
In addition, we are currently collaborating with biologists to enhance biodiversity in this area. We are exploring options such as bird and bat boxes, bee facilities, and animal food forest development.
We also anticipate natural regeneration in these areas following the clearing and mastication activities. By strategically preparing and treating the land, we aim to foster a resilient and thriving ecosystem for future generations.
